STRONGER TOGETHER
The Importance Of Unity
By Bible Teacher Kola Kayode
Unity is a top priority for Jesus and for His church, and it should be our top priority as well. The Bible commands us: “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bonds of peace” (Eph. 4:3).
One of our primary jobs as Christians and church leaders is to maintain unity and promote peace—whatever it takes! Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.
It is a witness to the world. In John 13:34, 35, Jesus said: “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
When churches love each other, there is unity and harmony.
Strength lies in differences, not in similarities. When spiders unite, they can tie down a lion.
Unity is strength, division is weakness.
Even the weak become strong when they are united. Where there is unity there is always victory. We rise by lifting others.
We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools. Together we can do great things. Remember upon the conduct of each depends the fate of all. unity is not absence of disagreement but a consensus to agree to work together. There is unity in diversity, there is diversity in unity. So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth.
Jesus prayed about it. Just before Jesus was crucified, He prayed for His followers. In this prayer, Jesus prayed for the unity of the church (John 17:20-24).
As church leaders, I challenge you to preach unity. I also challenge you to model it. This seems clear in Paul’s challenge to “follow me as I follow Christ.”
Unity is essential for any kind of achievement. It’s needed in families; to have a happy family you must have unity. It’s needed in business; employees must learn to get along. Unity is needed in government if anything is to be accomplished. On any sport team, players have to be unified in order to win. Hence For the church, the body of Christ, to pull down the gate of hell, overcome the adversaries, principalities and powers in any communities, Church leaders irrespective of denomination must unit.
God bless.
