ELEMENTS OF EFFECTIVE PRAYERS
(1) PRAISE (Nehemiah 1:5) 
Praise is expressing to God our appreciation and understanding of His worth. When we praise God, we help ourselves by expanding our awareness of who He is. Prayer becomes ineffectual if the number one vital element "praise" is missing. Praise is not just a song but an expression that appreciates and understands God's worth. 
Tragic situation has a way of sapping the element of praise from the prayer of believers. The devil takes advantage of such scenarios to divert our focus from how great our God is, to how big, difficult and impossible our situation is. Hence that is why many individual focus more on acknowledging their problems In place of God. Nehemiah started his prayer with praise despite the tragic news; he didnt see it as a medium to question God's Authority! Instead, his first utterance reference God, who keep His covenant of unfailing love with those who love Him and obey is commandment. No matter how tragic your situation seems to be if your prayer lacks this element, it become ineffective and ineffectual.
(2) REPENTANCE (NEH 1:6-7) 
"ACKNOWLEDGE SIN AND IT ADVANCE EFFECT
Repentance, is also another vital element of an effective and effectual prayer,  when Sin has created a gap between you and God. Genuine repentance is not just a Daily confession of sin it's beyond that. Many are still wallowing and perishing in sin, in spite of their daily confession. For God's eye and ear to be open and attentive to your prayer of repentance it must be based on the following vital truth.
